The Happy Elephant is located fifteen minutes in the direction of Rawai from Chalong circle. When you see signs for the Golden Tulip, Mangosteen continue down the road for 500m and you will see a sign for the Happy Elephant on the right.
Although it is now considered a working beach - with fishing boats and long tails regularly departing on excursions - the lovely white sand, beach-front restaurants and casuarina trees under which to take shade from, make it an ideal spot to relax.
It is also a beach that is oft used by the locals and as such it is quite common to see little Thai boys and girls splish-splashing amid the moored long tails at the weekends.
This is an area in which to unwind away from Phuket's more touristy areas. Take a tranquil stroll along the pier or marvel at the clear blue sea while sampling some delicious fresh seafood.
The weekend is invariably when Rawai is at its busiest as locals, expat residents and tourists alike flock to the beautiful beach to enjoy a peaceful and calm afternoon and a catch a glimpse into a traditional working Phuket beach.
